What a Fantastic Season!

Our Junior Presentation was held yesterday afternoon to celebrate the achievements of all our Thornleigh Cricket Junior and Cricket Blast players.

It was great to gather together with friends and family as a club and hear about each of the teams and their progress and achievements throughout the season.

C GRADE CHAMPIONS 2024/25 ⚡🏆

Grand Final Match Report:
The 2024/25 C Grade Grand Final begun on Saturday morning when St Ives won the toss and decided to bowl first. In the blistering heat, it didn't take long before opening batsmen Josh Osborne and Ben Elliott raced away to a total of 80+ within 10 overs, esentially taking the final away from St Ives before it had started. St Ives fought back after the fall of the openers, but key batsmen such as Harry Stuart and Mitchell Black stuck in and fought hard for 20+ runs each, setting a total of 168, and a challenge for the St Ives batsmen.

And a challenge it was, St Ives immediately lost early wickets through the bowling of Ben James and Max Williams, thanks to an absolute screamer of a catch from Harry Stuart. With a minor comeback starting to form, the compeititon's leading wicket taker Mitchell Black stepped up and tore apart the middle order of St Ives, leaving no room for a first innings victory, and the tail was eventually cleaned up by Josh Elliott leaving a total of 46.

Day 2 emerges, and St Ives found themselves batting against the fierce Thornleigh attack yet again. Top bowler Mitchell Black did damage with 2 wickets, but it was the unpredictable movement of Ed Williams that proved to be the turning point, taking 4 wickets for just 17 runs. A strong spell from Josh Osborne stopped any signs of a comeback, meaning Thornleigh needed just 27 runs to secure the title. The opening batsmen cleaned up the runs nicely, with Josh Osborne smacking 3 sixes and 1 four to bring up the victory for the mighty blue and and gold.

Our C Grade side have clinched their third title with a 10 wicket victory over St Ives. An amazing performance from everyone, well done team!

What a day of cricket for our C Grade side! ⚡️

The day started with St Ives winning the toss and choosing to bowl, which they would soon regret as opening batsmen Ben Elliott and Josh Osborne wasted no time in spooning the ball over the fence on multiple occasions, as the team score raced towards triple digits. With Ben retiring on 50* and Josh finishing on 41, the rest of the team chipped in with handy runs on the way to our final total, with Harry Stuart and Mitchell Black both scoring 20+.

The target was 168, but there was never a chance of that score being reached with Mitchell Black’s fierce spell, taking a stunning 5-18 off 9 overs, an incredible performance on the biggest stage! Josh Elliott cleaned up the rest and St Ives were knocked over for 46. 💙💛

What does this mean? Thornleigh have won the first innings and enforced the follow on. Essentially, St Ives need to score 113 runs to equal, then score enough runs to get a lead, and then take 10 wickets before the end of days play. Fingers crossed our C Grade side hold on and secure the baggy cap!

Our C Grade side have reached their 3rd final as a team in 6 years, looking to take the title up against St Ives this weekend after an incredible season, finishing in second place.

With majority of our C Grade side playing together since Under 11’s, the team are no strangers to the big stage, already having won 2 senior grand finals and 3 junior grand finals.

Playing at Turramurra Memorial Park, the team has a unique opportunity to play like the pros on a turf wicket, looking for dominance with the bat and the ball!

Last weekend wrap up of the season!

Our junior teams played their last game of the season on the weekend. This season has been incredible for our juniors, with all players improving their skills, making new friends and having a whole lot of fun. Thank you to the parents, volunteers, coaches and of course the players for making this possible.

Our cricket blast legends had their last session this week, concluding the season with another awesome day! Thank you to coaches Ayden, Zac and Sullivan for your hard work throughout the program.

Our C4’s and D2 Grade sides concluded their seasons on Saturday, with our C4’s losing narrowly and our D2 side drawing, but missing out on a grand final due to ladder position. An incredible effort from both sides and a season to be proud of! Congratulations to our C Grade side for making the final, more to come on our socials regarding the upcoming grand final…

Semi finals fever hit our senior teams, with all sides with a good chance of making the final, especially C Grade who won first innings! Let’s have a look at our top performers:

Greg Imeson: An amazing innings at a crucial time, Greg put on a classic batting clinic as our D2 side flew to an outstanding lead. With incredible shot after shot, Greg worked his way to the milestone in superb fashion and was able to raise the bat in a semi final no less! Incredible effort Greg! ⚡️

Auden Clark: 84 runs, a superb batting innings!

Alistair Weston: 56* (43), steering his team to victory with the bat and he isn’t done yet!

Chris Belcastro: 3/20 off 9 overs, including 2 maidens!

With last round concluding the season for our D Grade side, it’s fitting that we celebrate and acknowledge the commitment and successes of some of our senior players.

The two remaining OG Thornleigh Seniors, "Skippy" Gareth Hughes and "Fergie" Dave Ferguson, hang up their cricket hats and kit after some 14 seasons, after getting together in 2010 with other Thornleigh Junior cricketer Dads, to again field a Senior Thornleigh team, after several years without a Senior team.

Subsequently, the Group has gone onto 2 Premiership victories...and 2 GF losses across various grades from D Reserve, D Grade, C4 and one year C3.
We were the original Father Son team and in time attracted sufficient players to create a second and then subsequent teams...numbering 4 Senior teams this season.

Also retiring after many seasons are Mike Burgess, Scott Hartley and Anthony Logiudice.

Thanks for the great memories and times.
You will be greatly missed all.

Our juniors had another great week, with our stars shining with impressive performances. Notably Lily Barden hit her first 6, which is a great achievement and proof that our young stars were watching the big bash this year!

Our seniors have wrapped up their season (so far) with 3 out of 4 teams qualifying for the semi finals!! Well done to those teams and well done to all teams for having a great year!

This season we will be splitting the presentation into 2 separate events.

Cricket Blast and Juniors start at 5pm and will go for about 1hr. Families are then encouraged to stay around and have dinner in the room but leave by about 7pm.

A MASSIVE congratulations is in order for these Thornleigh heroes!!

Noah Haynes from the D Reserve side had an innings to remember this afternoon, as he joins the Thornleigh Cricket hundred club with a superb knock of 100*. A vast range of shots on display, Noah comfortably got to the total and received a standing ovation from the pavilion at the home of cricket. Amazing work Noah!!

Over at Headen Park, a match saving over from Ben James saw him take a marvellous hat trick! First bowled, then LBW, and finally a good catch from wicketkeeper Ben Elliott to finish off the milestone. Thornleigh C Grade would go on to win outright with 3 balls to go, so this burst of wickets really turned the game! Incredible stuff Ben.

The Belong Bash Fund has raised a HUGE $33900, which is being shared among three local clubs to support grassroots cricket.

Thornleigh Cricket Club is thrilled to be the recipient of $11300 to put towards our club. The giant cheque was presented to us by AJ from @belongau_ at Cricket Central.

We are planning to spend the money on things to benefit the whole club including expert Coaching Sessions, a Ball Machine and Speed Guns.

Another weekend of cricket behind us!

It was great to see our junior teams back in action for 2025, with some all round fantastic displays and really close games! Was a good opportunity to get the season kicking again and into the closing few rounds.

Our senior teams all showed a lot of promise this week with some positive results, and some key performances:

Andrew Upton: 8/19 off 13.2 overs. Absolutely ridiculous bowling, superb performance Andrew and our seniors player of the round!

Ben James: 3/10 off 6 overs, a game changing spell.

Vitus Chu: 60*, a superb batting performance, unbeaten on 60.

D2: All round team bowling performance, with a pair of wickets for Henry, Mitchell, Auden and Greg. Well done team!

Mitchell Black: A super effort, bowling 14.4 overs in a long day in the field, picking up 2/17 with 6 maidens.

A news worthy story!

Ten lucky Thornleigh junior cricketers had the opportunity this week to meet Sydney Sixers players, explore the SCG and even get some playing time on the hallowed turf!

Thanks to Belong, our junior stars met cricket superheroes such as Steve Smith, Sean Abbott, Jordan Silk, Moises Henriques and many more. There was time to watch them bat and bowl in the nets, which continued on to some drills on the famous SCG playing grounds.

An incredible day, it was only right to be captured by news outlets as our club members were interviewed about the day and Belong’s impact on local cricket.

An INCREDIBLE win for our C4 side on the weekend!!

In their one-day clash with Asquith, the team was tasked with chasing down a score of 127 set by the opposition. Chris Flanagan continued his run of form by posting up a solid 41, but it was Terry McKinnon and Andrew Upton who brought the team home to victory with a 33* and a 22 respectively.

There were still runs needed for victory coming into the final over of the match, and on the second last ball of the day Terry smoked a ball on the off side securing a great win for Thornleigh. Well done team!

C Grade and D Grade both had byes this week, and unfortunately for our D Reserves the overnight and morning rain was too much for the pitch.

Tom and Oliver took turns with the Aussie and India flags and got to meet some cricketing greats. Oliver had a nice pic with Nathan Lyon and Tom got a fist bump from Sam Konstas. A fantastic memory for each of them, and they must’ve given the Aussie players some advice as the home team cruised to a comfortable match and series win against India!
